Election will clash with Euro 2024England will hope to still be in GermanyPlayers must follow specific protocolWHAT HAPPENED?
The Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, called a general election earlier this week, confirming that Britain will go to the polls on July 4 to decide who should run the country; Sunak's Conservatives will go up against Keir Starmer's Labour for the keys to No.10. That clashes with Euro 2024; the first quarter-final takes place on July 5th.

If England are still in the tournament, which they will hope to be, they will have to vote either via post or via proxy. The players will have to register for a postal vote – ensuring they are on the electoral register – before June 19 but as they will not be in the country when postal votes are dispatched, they may be minded to appoint a proxy – normally a family member or a friend the player can trust – to vote on their behalf. The deadline for appointing a proxy is June 26.
The links for postal and proxy votes can be done through the GOV.UK website.
DID YOU KNOW?
The Scotland players will face a similar issue to England's players at the tournament if they progress from their group. There is also the added wrinkle of Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane being British citizens living overseas, with the former playing for Real Madrid and the latter for Bayern Munich. They would both surely be minded to nominate a proxy.
