As things stand, the Sweden international is working on a deal at Old Trafford that is due to expire in the summer of 2024. He is not expected to hit free agency, with the Red Devils having a 12-month extension clause that will keep the 29-year-old defender on their books.

There has been talk of Lindelof attracting interest from elsewhere, with Serie A giants AC Milan said to be one of his many suitors, but the classy centre-half believes his long-term future will lie in England as he has no desire to take on a new challenge.
WHAT THEY SAID
Lindelof told reporters when it was put to him that United will be extending his contract: “That’s more than I heard! I have an option [for another] year and there is a deadline for it. When exactly I don’t know. But it feels likely that it will be activated. Absolutely [I want to stay]. I enjoy myself very much. I am entering my seventh year. I feel good and the family feels good. It’s a club that I really like, and that I love to represent.”

Lindelof joined United from Benfica in 2017 for £31 million ($38m). He is closing in on 250 appearances for the club and, having helped them to Carabao Cup glory last season, is not looking for a way out despite facing fierce competition for places from the likes of Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire.
