Dimitar Berbatov’s agent has revealed that the Bulgarian is not looking to leave Fulham, and is keen to see out his contract at the club.
The former Manchester United front-man has been linked with a summer switch to Zenit Saint-Petersburg after an impressive debut season in west London.
With the Russian giants able to offer him Champions League football and a more realistic shot at silverware, some have speculated that the 32-year-old may be willing to make one last big move.
But, his agent, Emil Danchev, says that Berbatov is not planning to leave, and wants to extend his current deal at the club, which runs until the end of 2013/14:
“He has another one-year contract with Fulham and he will stay at Fulham until the end of his contract,” he is quoted by the Evening Standard.
“He’s happy at Fulham and he wants to stay another year. I don’t want to comment on other clubs. Even if there is interest, he’s happy in Fulham and he wants to stay. He will play football for at least two more years.”
The news will come as a welcome relief to Fulham chief Martin Jol, who was made to sweat on the future of Clint Dempsey a year ago.
Eventually the American sealed a late switch to Tottenham, a move that left the Cottagers’ front-line depleted.
Fulham fans, is it a relief to hear that Dimitar Berbatov is staying? Or would you have rather cashed in while you had the chance?
