Spurs boss Harry Redknapp praised his side’s defensive efforts in their 1-0 win over Blackburn at Ewood Park on Wednesday.
A Peter Crouch goal after just four minutes was enough to hand all three points to Tottenham, who posted their first win in four games and their first away win in the Premier League in 2011.
Redknapp attributed the victory to his defenders, who responded strongly to their 4-0 FA Cup mauling at Craven Cottage against Fulham on Sunday.
“It was a big win. It’s not an easy place to come to, Blackburn. They’ve had a good run recently so to get a win and a clean sheet was a good performance for us tonight,” Redknapp told the BBC.
“( William) Gallas was magnificent tonight. Fantastic – absolutely superb. (Sebastien) Bassong had a bad day on Sunday, him and Michael (Dawson) had a nightmare start to the game but he came back tonight and did ever so well.”
“He won his headers and always looked comfortable. They did a great job.”
Blackburn manager Steve Kean said he was disappointed his side had failed to convert their many chances into goals, but maintained he was pleased with the work ethic of his men.
“We’re disappointed because I thought the goal caught us a little bit cold and after that we really got after them and played some good football,” Kean said.
“We probably had five or six really good chances and 11 on target, so we’re disappointed.”
“When you look back at the game and you see all the saves (Spurs goalkeeper Heurelho) Gomes has made, he’s probably Tottenham’s man of the match.”
“I think if we can continue to make these chances and maybe sharpen up in front of goal then I’m sure the points will flood in.”
