According to the Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa will push to sign Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe on a permanent deal at the end of the season.
What’s the story?
Tuanzebe initially joined Villa on loan back in January, but injuries restricted the England Under-21 international to just five appearances during the second half of last season.
The 20-year-old never really had the chance to show his best form at Villa last term, but returned to the club on loan ahead of the 2018-19 campaign.
Tuanzebe has already made seven appearances for Villa this season, and has appeared in each of their last five Championship matches.
According to the Birmingham Mail, Villa are desperate to sign the defender on a permanent basis next summer, although the club will have to earn promotion to the Premier League in order to stand a chance of completing a deal.
What are Villa’s chances of signing him?
Tuanzebe came through the youth system at United, and has made eight first-team appearances for the Red Devils, but has featured just once in the Premier League since the end of the 2016-17 season.
United boss Jose Mourinho has previously commented on Tuanzebe’s potential, but he clearly thinks that the defender is not yet ready for first-team action in the Premier League.

Tuanzebe is still young, but will want to be playing football at this stage of his career, and might relish the challenge of helping Villa consolidate in the Premier League once again, should they manage to secure a return to the top flight.
Standing at 6ft 1in and boasting impressive pace, Tuanzebe certainly has the physical attributes to thrive as a Premier League defender, whilst his technical skills will come on following a full season of first-team action.
Villa will face a fight to prise him away from United on a permanent basis, but it would be some signing if they managed to pull it off.
