Manchester United defender Jonny Evans has stated that pressure on Manchester City has increased, and that their game against Chelsea on Wednesday could have a major say in the title race.
The Red Devils opened up a four-point gap at the top of the Premier League on Sunday by beating Wolves, whilst Roberto Mancini’s men host the Blues at the Etihad Stadium in midweek.
Evans feels that the pressure is well and truly on City to get a result against a rejuvenated Chelsea.
“Wednesday is a massive game,” the Northern Ireland defender told The Guardian.
“We have done our job and that does put pressure on City. Chelsea have had a couple of good victories so maybe their spirits will be up a little bit and they will go into Wednesday’s game in pretty confident mood.”
Evans went on to admit that his team’s 5-0 win over Wolves will aid the side’s goal difference, with the title race potentially going right down to the wire.
“The goal difference is a massive consideration. If you look ahead to the end of the season, the last thing you want to do is lose the league on goal difference.
“It is almost like another point at times and it would be a horrible way to lose the league if that was the case, so it is up to us to rectify it,” he concluded.
