Mourinho initiated the war of words by taking a jibe at Galatasaray with a social media post. He used an image that appeared to show Galatasaray defender Davinson Sanchez handling the ball inside the box against Gaziantep last week – with no penalty being awarded. In the caption he wrote: "In the Handball World Cup that ended last Sunday, my Portugal brilliantly reached the semifinals and I want to congratulate them for such an achievement and the impact they will create on our country’s youth."

Icardi was quick to offer a response to the Fenerbahce boss as he dusted off “The Crying One” meme, in reference to Mourinho previously anointing himself as ‘The Special One’, while posting his own picture of a supposed handball by a Fenerbahce player that went unpunished.
WHAT JOSE MOURINHO SAID
Now at a press conference, the Portuguese manager aimed a sarcastic dig at the forward as he said: "I am Special One, no The Special One. With 25 years of career and 26 titles and not with one match. That is not one match to define my career. My career is a career of 25 years. In relation to the comments of Icardi, Icardi is a GOAT and I refuse to comment on a GOAT's words. He is too big, I won't comment."
