The young Red Devils raced into a 4-0 lead after goals from James Scanlon, an Ethan Wheatley brace, and an Ethan Williams strike, with Joseph Bradshaw pulling one back for the hosts before half-time. In the second half, Wheatley completed his hat-trick, before Scanlon, a Gabriele Biancheri double and Ashton Missin's late goal completed the rout on Saturday afternoon on Merseyside.

While United's youngsters will be thrilled with this victory, and in years to come some may break into the first-team, the main event this weekend is when Erik ten Hag's side host top-of-the-table Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday in a crucial Premier League clash. Jurgen Klopp's men are chasing the league title and United will try and keep their slim Champions League qualification hopes alive.

In the Under-18 clash, United had 22 shots and 15 of those were on target, whereas Liverpool fashioned nine efforts of their own but just four of those were on target. The visitors ended the game with 56 percent possession, too.
